There are many different avenues that you can take to stop repossession. As previously mentioned every one of these methods has been used at least once and has been successful in either postponing repossession or, in some cases, able to stop repossession altogether. Contacting and working with your finance company directly is the most efficient ways to stop repossession of any kind.

Contacting your finance company is the most effective way to stop repossession because it keeps the lines of communication open with your finance company. You may be bombarded by calls and letters frequent enough to drive even the most stable person insane you should still quickly respond to any communication sent out by the finance company so they’ll realize that you’re willing to do what needs to be done to stop repossession. If you make them aware of your situation they’ll be more willing to assist you in adjusting payment plans and maybe even reducing late fees.

Be specific and give reasons for why you haven’t been making your payments. Even if it’s a different excuse every month your finance company will usually be lenient more willing to stop repossession. In fact having a different excuse every month may even benefit you. There’s nothing worse than listening to the same sob story month after month especially when the person is doing nothing about it. When you offer different reasons why you need more time to make your payments the finance company may be more willing to work with you. On that note the more “out there” the story the easier it is to believe.

Most importantly if you want to stop repossession you must do what you say. If you tell the finance company you’re going to make a payment on a certain date make sure you make that payment or your intentions to stop repossession will probably count for nothing. To truly stop repossession you must have the finance company on your side. You’ve already had to go against the original loan agreement if they’re willing to work with you to stop repossession try not to make that mistake twice.

Finance companies do not want to repossess anything, they would much rather work with you to stop repossession than to have to go through the lengthy process where everyone loses. Keep in mind the collection agents that work at your finance company are just doing a job. They have a list of tons of people to call and a majority of them either don’t answer or are not friendly. If you’re willing to work with your finance company to stop repossession they’ll probably be willing to take any excuse you have to offer and move on to the next person on their list. Just remember to communicate what’s going on, be easily accessible, and stick to your word and you’ll be able to stop repossession.
