Repo Cars For Sale Checklist

When deciding to buy repo cars for sale there are a few things you should look for in order to make sure you don’t get yourself something that you’ll have to pay someone else to take off your hands. Though buying repo cars for sale is one of the smartest ways to buy a used car take caution and follow a few simple guidelines and hopefully buying those repo cars will become an investment rather than a devalued asset, something that can potentially make you money instead of lose you money.

1 Examine the cars
Circle the repo cars examining them for any signs of repainting, body damage or previous repair. Look under the bumpers, on the doors and hood. If there’s been previous damage to the repo cars usually the door or portion of the car that was damaged will have a slightly different paint color than the rest of the car. It may not be a deal breaker but take any repair into consideration when deciding to purchase repo cars.

2 Start the cars
Let the engine for a few moments and listen closely. Try to determine if there are any strange noises, rattling, or knocking sounds. If there are it would be a good idea to pass on that repo car. If possible turn on the Air Conditioning and lights. Depending on the size of the motor this may cause the engine to run louder or harder but it should not cause the repo cars to die out or to make any strange knocking or rattling sounds.

3 Drive the cars
If you’re able by all means attempt to drive the car. Not all repo car auctions will allow you to actually drive the vehicle but if giving the opportunity take it. If anything just sit in the driver’s seat and use your senses to see or feel if anything just doesn’t seem right. Odd burn marks, broken glass, loose wires are all things that would be cause for concern on any cars not just repo cars.

4 Get a History of the cars
A lot of times history on repo cars can be obtained. Try to find out why it was repossessed in the first place and if at all possible see if you can run some type of history report on the repo cars. Carfax or similar services can provide service records, collision histories, and even repairs done on registered vehicles.

If you follow these steps buying repo cars for sale can not only be satisfying but can also be profitable. If you’re able to preview the repo cars for sale the day before take advantage of that time. If not make sure you arrive early with enough time to really examine what you may be buying. Even brining a laptop or having access to the internet over your phone would be a very useful in case you need to look something up. Just remember when it comes to repo cars if something is too good to be true it probably is.
